About Me
I started photography in 1973. Three years later, after the purchase of my first interchangeable lens camera I started shooting Events, Portraits & Weddings etc. I worked in a well known London studio in the nineties where I learnt more about flash photography and studio lighting.
I was late in making the move to digital photography from film. I didn't get my first DSLR until 2012 (pocket ones since '95) because the quality wasn't as good as film. It still isn't in a lot of ways, but it is constantly improving. The current trend is showing that people are moving away from digital and returning to film (or discovering it for the first time) - I still like to use both as each has its merits.
My preferred choice of professional cameras and lenses are made by Hasselblad and Nikon.
Why I Mostly Shoot In A Home Studio
Firstly, it means I don't need to worry about the weather. Secondly, it gives me total control of the light and shadows. Lastly, it's easier for me because I use a wheelchair and it has been modified for this. Few commercially available studios offer wheelchair access anyway, and I know of none on the Isle of Wight.
I still like to shoot outdoors too (just ask) because some people prefer natural backgrounds and sunlight (or moonlight) for their pictures - it just means we must have good luck with the weather. Even then the available light is often poor so we have to add some artificial light.
Why I Use A Wheelchair
I have a condition called Hypermobile Ehlers-Danloss Syndrome (hEDS) with further complications (Arachnoiditis) caused by spinal surgery. This limits my ability to walk more than a few steps without extreme pain.
For Your Peace Of Mind
I have full Professional Indemnity and Public Liability Insurance.
I am Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checked.
Certificates for both of the above are available to view before your session if you wish.
