FAQ

Can I bring a friend to my session?

Of course, they will be very welcome.

Can I bring a Hairdresser/Make-up Artist?

Yes, of course. If you're doing a Model Portfolio, I would expect this anyway.

Can I cancel or reschedule my session?

Yes, but you must give a minimum of seven days notice. In the event of sickness or accident special allowances can be made.

Can i have the negatives or raw files?

In most Portrait Photography cases no, as you will not want to pay the MUCH higher price that will be asked for them.

However, the digital JPEG images you receive will be of the highest quality available, so that you can use them for your own printing or editing if you wish.

It is a common misconception that RAW files are better quality - they are not. In fact, they mostly look dreadful because they are just raw camera data. The exposures will have been taken to allow for better post production and editing.

Asking for the raw files, is a bit like asking a writer for their draft manuscript - it just isn't a book yet.

Do you drive?

I certainly do. Life without a car on the Isle of Wight would be very difficult indeed.

Taxis are expensive and are rarely wheelchair accessible. The bus service is only of use between the major towns.

Do you give posing instruction? I'm not very photogenic.

Don't worry, you'll be given as much help as you need - that's my job. I want you to have photos that you're really happy with.

Do you work outside too?

Of course. My wheelchair gives me limitations, but I won't let it keep me indoors.

I use a wheelchair, is that ok?

No problem at all - I do too. My place is fully accessible.

Please see the Accessibility page in the menu under the More tab for extra information.

Who owns the copyright?

By law, the copyright always belongs to the photographer.

You may only use the photographs supplied to you for personal use - this will be in the contract you must sign before purchasing your session.

If you wish to publish them online or use them commercially, licences can be granted at extra cost.

There is more information on the UK Government website - https://www.gov.uk/copyright

What is processing and editing?

Processing (or light editing) is just lightly adjusting the colour balance, contrast or brightness and cropping or straightening of the image.

Editing (or enhancing) is the removal of skin blemishes, stray hair, brightening of eyes, teeth whitening and skin softening.

What should I wear?

Naturally, you can wear what you want, but for the best results avoid very bright colours or anything completely white. Also avoid items that are striped, squared or heavily patterned. If it's fashionable, consider that you may dislike it next year.

Bring along a change or two of clothing if you like, and if you're still not sure give me a call.

Why should i hire a professional photographer?

The list of reasons is very long, but here are a few:

Quality - High quality, professional cameras and lenses give better results.

Editing - Editing and retouching can really make a difference. Skin can be softened, spots, wrinkles and blemishes removed, teeth whitened, eyes brightened etc.

Professional Lighting - allows the photographer to take full control of the shadows.

Composition - This is a skill that takes years to learn unless you're a very talented artist.

Capturing Emotions - A professional knows how to bring out the best in you and how to get you to pose for the best results.

Attention To Detail - Amateur and inexperienced photographers can make so many simple mistakes. A professional shouldn't, but if it did happen you would get a free re-shoot.

Only a trained and experienced 'eye' can consistently give you great pictures.

When will I get my photos?

You will receive an online gallery link to all your photos as soon as they have been processed and edited - this is normally within two weeks, but I will always try to get them to you much sooner.

You can download all the photos from the gallery, but you can also share them, choose favourites, and order prints, posters, canvases, wall art etc. if you wish.
